For an upcoming book series, I created five vectorized background illustrations to showcase with the imagery of the series.
First in the series is this scene from the first part of Lycoria, which takes place in the fictional, Japanese-inspired nation of Kikuo. In this particular scene, Naoi, the protagonist, is dreaming of his usual meditation spot caught in the juxtaposition of spring (characterized by the cherry blossoms) and autumn (characterized by the red spider lilies).
For the second in my vector background series, I chose to illustrate the silhouette of the primary location of the second part of Lycoria, which takes place in Jinfeng, a nation inspired by China. To showcase the autumn season, I chose to use chrysanthemums, which bear importance to Naoi, and ginkgo, a national symbol of Jinfeng.
The third in my vector series is a view of an area revealed in the third part of Lycoria, the Astrophel Territory. This area resembles where Germany borders Poland as well as the Nordic countries. It has frigid winters, but is still full of life. I wanted the snowy atmosphere to still look lively, rather than devoid of life. This part of the story is important as a turning point for Naoi and his found family.
The fourth in my vector series is the view of the Tepes Castle that Naoi and his family later visit in the Romanian-inspired nation of Chirunia. This nation plays an important role in the overall series and is rarely seen in such a colorful, and lively view. At this time, it is spring and a ball is happening, bringing with it a fun and colorful atmosphere.
The last vector illustration in the series is a more dramatic view of the Tepes Castle in Chirunia, much more resembling of its usual state. It is dark, gloomy, and holds secrets that only leave you with more questions when you need answers.
